Singles Vacation
Isle of Crete, Greece
Join us for a most unusual international week of touring, exploring, gourmet dining on the magic Isle of Crete. In conjunction with several other international singles organizations we will be jointly sponsoring this unique singles singles getaway.
Our singles will come primarily from Great Brittan and the US so English will be the main language. A real opportunity to meet, socialize, vacation and just have fun with singles from both the US and GB.
Unlike our other singles vacations we have organized this to be a little less structured, we will be offering a mix of daily fun activities for you to choose from.. pick the only what appeals to you. We will be staying in a beautiful hotel with incredible facilities including gourmet dining room, 2 swimming pools, outdoor jacuzzi, sun terraces with sun beds, Wi Fi in public areas.
Included Features and Excursions:
History Talk (45 minutes): We'll find out more about the long fascinating history of Crete every second Wednesday evening. The island holds 5000 years of history, from the Minoan period to the Hellenistic times, to the Roman period, to the Byzantine era, up to modern times. Over the centuries Crete has been invaded by many countries mainly because of its strategic position in the then known world for the control of the eastern Mediterranean and the trade between 3 continents. This obviously had a tremendous impact on the islands traditions, way of life and character of the people.
History walk of Chania- The little Venice of Crete: We'll walk through the old Venetian town of Chania with our host on Wednesday. Discover the greatest monument of the western Crete. Lunch at Petridis taverna on the water front. Nikos, the owner has been a restaurateur for 65 years! But more importantly, we ate the most delicious calamari, shrimp saganaki and so much more for 3 leisurely hours. Of course, wine was included and raki to top it all off!
Greek Night-SPECIAL STI INCLUSION: Eat, Drink and be merry at Barbeque and Greek night with Live Greek music and professional dancers every Friday evening. We'll get to see the traditional costumes and dances of Crete and mainland Greece. (Minimum of 15 required)
Cooking Demonstration: Join us in the kitchen on Friday afternoon. We'll see, smell and taste what will be served for dinner. Learn how to make stuffed tomatoes, tzatziki and Cretan small cheese pies. Take home recipes to impress your friends at home and our host will send you home with a bottle of the family olive oil.
Group Photo Session: Say (Feta) cheese! On Friday night we'll enjoy a group photo session to remind us all of an excellent week.
Vegetable Garden: We'll visit the hotel's vegetable garden (organic in transition). We'll see for ourselves where the vegetables, eggs and chicken we enjoy at the hotel come from.
Snorkeling: Let's go snorkeling! Located across from the hotel (wet suits and gear provided).
Bird Watching: We'll watch some of Crete's wild birds, many of them rare. (Telescope provided) |

Crete – the southernmost island in Europe has “everything”! Its bountiful variety of features includes mountain villages, long sandy beaches, rocky bays, beach-bar-boogie & nightlife. There are magnificent mountain ranges, water-sports, tranquil locations and clean swimmable seas. Bathed in clear sunlight much of the year, the climate is one of the best in Europe....Crete offers both developed tourist areas with resort hotels and also quiet coves, hidden beaches and invigorating mountain villages and plateaus that reward the discerning world traveler. There is a lot to do in Crete and much is near our hotel. Tennis courts and the beach are just across the road, a little mini train also adjacent to our hotel can take you to various inland stops and places of interest including the lift to Plantanias village for shopping. There are a selection of tavernas, bars, supermarkets, shops and jewelery shops all within walking distance of our hotel.
We will have a history, culture and places of interest presentaion on Wednesday evening so you can learn a little about the heritage of the sights of the island. In addition you will find out about all the things to do during your week.
On Thursday we will have a tour of Chania and lunch at Petridis taverna on the water front. Friday is barbecue and Greek night with live music and professional dancers to entertain. We will also have a cooking demonstration and you can see first hand how to make some the world famous Greek specialties ... stuffed tomatoes, tzatziki, and Cretan small cheese pies. Your friends from home will be really impressed.
In addition the Isle of Crete has many of it own activities all accessible from our hotel.

Our Hotel:
Our hotel, a special place for singles, is located along the coast in the small town hamlet of Maleme, 18km west of Chania in western Crete. It has a total of 33 rooms in two wings, and STI has arranged for our guests to stay in one of the new, deluxe rooms with hair dryer, safe, ironing board, coffee/tea kettle. There are 2 swimming pools and 1 outdoor Jacuzzi surrounded by spacious sun terraces with sun beds and umbrellas. In the reception area, fast, efficient Internet facilities are available as well as Wi-Fi for a small charge. Laptops for hire during your stay, but must be pre booked. Please let us know at time of reservation if you require this service.
Dining:
Our all-inclusive package includes breakfast and dinner. The hotel offers a wide variety of dishes including local specialties and snacks, which are available at any time of the day. All food is prepared on the spot for you. The majority of the raw foods are produced locally and delivered daily. All meals are prepared by mother Katerina, who is the quality assurance for homemade Cretan cuisine! Most of the fresh vegetables are produced in our vegetable garden and some of the eggs and chicken come from the family's farm.
Entertainment:
The circular bar area is popular with guests and locals throughout the day and during the evening. It is very lively, especially after dinner. Our experience is that the hotel pool bar is a popular place and makes for a safe and fun night life experience. As well as a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, the bar also serves food from the kitchen. Sip your pre-dinner ouzo at the bar accompanied by other guests and make new friends. Be prepared to mix with the family and their circle of friends that come to the bar for a drink or two in the evenings, or to sample the freshly made pizzas.
Things To Do:

Bus transportation to Chania is available for only 2.10 Euros each way and a mini train is adjacent to our hotel and will take us to various inland stops as well as places of interest including the lift to Plantanias village for shopping and fun. Transportation to Crete:
There are a few direct flight from the US to Chania, Crete (Airport Code CHQ), but there are many through Athens. We recommend flying into Chania Airport (CHQ) in Crete on May 25, 2010, and departing from Chania Airport (CHQ) on June 1, 2010. If your air schedule is routed via Athens, make sure to allow a minimum of 1 1/2 hours to connect. Airport transfers on the first and last days of the tour are included in trip costs. Please notify us 30 days prior to departure of your flight arrival and departure times. For arrivals and departures on any other day, add $45 USD each way.
Air Transportation:
